Ceramics Workshop-Gallery by Eduardo Vega
The Eduardo Vega Gallery Workshop is located a few meters before reaching the Turi viewpoint, on a hill from which the city of Cuenca (World Heritage Site by UNESCO) can be seen in its entirety. When visiting the city, this Workshop would be one of the points of visit, to appreciate the mastery that fuses the art of design with handmade ceramics.
Eduardo Vega and his son Guillermo, take as a source of inspiration different motifs of nature and human beings: popular festivals, stories, characters, plants, animals, forests, rivers and mountains. These causes have the effect of beautiful works of art in ceramics, which are appreciated in Ecuador and abroad. From this teamwork, father and son get the perfect combination of art, craftsmanship and utilitarian objects, since their fine works can also be used in everyday life, such as a vase, a wall lamp, coffee or teacups, tableware and many other things.
The Gallery Workshop displays the creations of these two ceramic artists. It is possible to take a guided tour, to learn about the trajectory of the two creators, their passion for design and crafts and those interested can buy the ceramics they like best. These ceramics have the particularity of being unique creations, unrepeatable, which bear the signature of their authors. This makes them a collector's item.
The family enterprise began two decades ago, in 1998, when Eduardo Vega was already a famous muralist from Cuenca. It is estimated that he has done at least 50 murals in the country and abroad. His career began in 1969 when he received his first major commission, to create a mural for the lobby of the Hotel El Dorado, in the city of Cuenca. The work, which measures 7 by 6 meters, remains to this day and is entitled "The Land of El Dorado". To execute it he lived 6 months in the village of Chordeleg, where he worked with potters, sharing knowledge and experiences.
Other murals, fruit of Vega's creativity and that are in Cuenca, are "Los Totems" a sculptural group in the roundabout of the Remigio Crespo Avenue and National Unity and "El Danzante" (the Dancer) in a branch of the Bank of the Austro in the Historical Center of the city of Cuenca.
