ABOUT
The Yakuma Amazonian Rainforest Forest Reserve and Hotel (Eco lodge) are a unique experience to visit the Amazon rainforest, located at a short distance from the city of Tena, Ecuador, in the Napo river area. This beautiful place combines the wonder of the jungle with ecotourism and the local community’s work, demonstrating that it is possible to raise sustainable economic development alternatives while avoiding harmful exploitation of natural resources.
In 275 hectares, the nature lovers have the guarantee of an unforgettable trip, where they can learn about the flora and fauna of the humid tropical forest, “lungs of the Earth” and also about its human geography. The Yakuma forest is characterized by rainfall during the year. The annual temperature average is 77°F or 25°C. The activities are: guided walks with native staff who interpret the different species of plants, trees, fruits, etc. that are found in the forest and their medicinal uses, bird watching with more than 340 species inhabiting the Reserve and expert guides that easily identify their songs and calls, diverse fauna observation, canoe trips and fishing in the Chontayacu river and in the Yacuma lagoon, swimming in Chontayacu, Sumino or Napo rivers and time for rest and relaxation.
The Yakuma Amazonian Rainforest Forest Reserve’s eco lodge has 12 cabins, 2 rooms each for 2 people, with private bathroom and beds with mosquitos nets, built in the traditional Amazonian style. The water is obtained from a nearby fountain. Yakuma Eco lodge was created in 1995 on the initiative of the indigenous Quichua Amazonian community of Chontayacu and Ecuadorhotel and it is a real example of how ecotourism benefits the local population through entrepreneurship and alliances.
